How it actually works.
Ivermectin binds glutamate-gated chloride channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells, increasing membrane permeability and paralyzing the parasite. Mammalian cells largely lack these channels, which underlies its selectivity.
Who it's for
- Adults with a provider-confirmed parasitic indication
Not for
- Pregnancy unless a provider judges it clearly needed
- Children under ~15 kg
- Known hypersensitivity to ivermectin
Side effects, up front.
Common
- •Dizziness or drowsiness
- •Nausea or mild GI upset
- •Itching or rash (often the body clearing the parasite)
Call your clinician
- •Allergic reaction (swelling, trouble breathing)
- •Stronger inflammatory (Mazzotti) reaction with heavy parasite burdens — provider-monitored
- •Neurologic effects (rare at approved doses)
